8 Week Art Program
March 31st - May 19th

My name is Madison and I am a 23 year old from Niagara with a lifelong passion for the Arts! Some of my favourite childhood memories are doing arts and crafts! Those moments sparked my love for creativity and self expression. As an educator, I am so excited to be able to share that passion with children and help them explore their creative side while providing a fun and encouraging environment.
Week 1 - Creative Foundations

Clay creations support children's fine-motor skills and coordination, enhance sensory awareness through tactile exploration of texture, pressure and form and encourages creativity and imagination by transforming ideas into physical forms.
Children will be introduced to colour theory, primary and secondary colours, warm and cool tones.
Week 2 - Cause and effect leaning
Supports children's creativity, coordination, confidence and early art skills. Children will see how water resists pastels as they use water paint to paint over their picture/ design they’ve created with pastels.
Week 3 - Clay Creations

Kids will build confidence as they see how small marks come together to form complete pictures while strengthening their hand-eye coordination through careful placement of paint on paper. Practicing focus and self-control, and understanding the value of slowing down and being present in the moment will build patience, care and gratitude.

Each child will have a small canvas and use tape to create a cross on canvas. Then children will use acrylic paint to paint canvas with any colour and design they would like. Peeling off tape will reveal a bold cross. This activity supports exploration, patience, and is a reminder that just as something beautiful is revealed when the tape is removed, God is always working even when we can’t see the full outcome yet.
Review of shapes! Children will use scissors to cut out different shapes using different coloured construction paper. They will then arrange shapes to create a photo! Once happy with design they will glue everything down. Children strengthen cognitive and spatial awareness as they plan and assemble their designs. This open ended activity also encourages creativity, problem solving and independence.
Week 4 - Practicing Intentional Placement
Week 5 - Cross Tape Painting
Week 6 - Shape Picture Making

Children create underwater scene using paint techniques and learning how to draw fish/turtle/shark or using silhouette shapes. Children will explore contrast, depth, and visual storytelling.

Children use clay to design and sculpt their own silly animals by shaping, rolling and assembling clay pieces. Children explore texture, form and problem solving/planning skills.
Week 7 - Under The Sea
Week 8 - Animal Clay Making
